Crete is the largest Greek island. A lot of Polish tourists visit Greece because still it is a safe and quite cheap country.
In August 2016 we were looking for a good place to go for our summer holidays. We wanted to go anywhere but the flight tickets to European countries, as well further, were pretty expensive. That’s why we decided to go to Crete with the travel agency – Grecos Holidays.
Due to my research, I learned that especially the western coast of Crete is worth visiting because of the amazing views and the best beaches in the island. In that way, we decided to stay in the all inclusive hotel Adelais in Tavronitis – around 20 km from Chania. For the whole package we paid around 630 $ per person.
Tavronitis is a good base to explore the western coast of the island but because of the shingle beach, not so popular among tourists.
Even to find a nice restaurant with the sea view is quite hard, so it is recommended to visit nearby town Kolymvari (Kolymbari) – the walk takes around 50 min. Once we went there and found a great restaurant with the fresh sea food. Then I realized that calamaries don’t have to be gummy!
Kolymvari is a quiet town perfect for relax with the family. We didn’t see fancy bars or disco clubs there. Just a few stands with souvenirs and cosy tavernas.
If someone prefers to have fun, spend evenings in bars and clubs, Agia Marina is a good place for that.
There are a lot of shops, restaurants and beach clubs. Once we went there to sunbathe at the sandy beach but I didn’t like it at all.
My first impression of Greece was a little bit negative. I thought that the island is dry, there were not so many flowers and green areas as we saw in Mexico and I coudn’t find avocados anywhere :(
But then we rented the car and start exploring…
