Definitely Essaouira was the best place we visited during our trip in Morocco.
After crowded and a bit annoying Marrakech, finally we could relax in that quite and charming place.
Where we stayed
In Essaouira, as well as in Marrakech, there are plenty of beautiful and attractive hotels, riads that it was a challenge for us to find the best place for 2 nights. Finally, we chose to stay in Palazzo Desdemona, the hotel located next to the port with the view at the Ocean. For 2 nights we paid 80 EUR with the breakfasts, and we got the most amazing room I have ever stayed in – Rita Hayworth.
The room is on the top of the building so we had a great view at the port, town and the Ocean of course.
One day in Essaouira
During the day we were mostly lying on the beach catching some sunlight. The beach is very pleasant, wide with soft sand. We could easily enjoy our time and relax, but from time to time we were distracted by the sellers of everything (beads, coffee, wooden figures, etc.).
When we got hungry, we went inside souk, the market, to find something to eat. On our way we stepped into the port to check if we can find fresh fish. We found some grill places but finally decided to have a fresh juice prepared with mandarins.
In the town center we found a lot of street food places, so we didn’t have any problem to eat delicious snacks and meals.
Essaouira is a very charming place mostly because of its architecture, cosy restaurants, art galleries and a big range of products to buy in siouk. For me the place is much better than Marrakech because is not so crowded and you can easily walk around without being forced to buy anything. But again, as in Marrakech, you always have to ask about the price before the purchase!
In the evening, after the sunset, we went to a very well-known place in Essaouira, Taros bar. We were amazed by the beautiful view from the terrace and generally by the place itself. That evening we could enjoy the live music and the Moroccan wine Touareg – bottle price 220 MAD.
The next day we were traveling back to Agadir. I highly recommend Essaouira, it is a magical town with great food and amazing views. It is also a good place for surfing and camel riding :)
And that was all about our trip to Morocco!
